Born from a passion
for exceptional coffee
Makaro was born from a simple conviction: that Honduras produces some of the finest coffee in the world,
and that it deserves to be presented with the same care and reverence as the most celebrated origins.
We work directly with smallholder farmers in the highland regions, building relationships based on trust,
fair compensation, and shared commitment to quality.
Every step of our supply chain is transparent, traceable, and intentional.
The name Makaro reflects the spirit of the land (strong, generous, and deeply rooted).
We carry that spirit into every bag we produce.
Our values
Origin Transparency
We know exactly where every bean comes from. Our Parainema variety is traceable to specific farms in the Honduran highlands, grown at elevations above 1,700 meters above sea level.
Craft Roasting
Each roast profile is developed through dozens of iterations to achieve the perfect balance between origin character and roast development. We roast in small batches for consistent quality.
Farmer Partnership
We pay above-market prices and invest in long-term relationships with our farming partners.
Their prosperity is inseparable from the quality of our coffee and the integrity of our brand.
The bean that changes everything
Parainema is not a well-known variety outside of Central America, but within the specialty coffee world, it is celebrated for its remarkable cup quality, disease resistance, and adaptability to high-altitude growing conditions.
Developed through agricultural research in Honduras, Parainema produces a cup of unusual complexity: the brightness of Ethiopian-style coffees combined with the body and chocolate notes more typical of South American origins. It is a variety that rewards attention and repays curiosity.
At Makaro, we focus exclusively on this variety because we believe in doing one thing exceptionally well. We have invested years in understanding how Parainema expresses itself at different altitudes, with different processing methods, and at different roast levels.
The result is a lineup of coffees that is coherent, distinctive, and unmistakably Honduran, and unmistakably Makaro.
